
Golf Cart and Off-Highway Operation
Certain conditions apply to legally operate golf carts and off-highway vehicles on public road ways. The term off-highway vehicle includes ATV’s, ROV’s, UTV’s and sand rails.
Conditions
A person may operate a golf cart or off-highway vehicle:
In a county and municipality approved master planned community containing a set of HOA/POA rules or “restrictive covenants”;
The vehicle is operated during daytime hours in an area not more than 2 miles from the location where the vehicle is usually parked;
On a roadway for which the posted speed limit is not more than 35 mph;
At a public or private beach approved for vehicular travel.
Requirements
You must have a valid driver’s license or, a learner’s permit and be accompanied by an adult, to drive a golf cart or off-highway vehicle on a public roadway!
ALL traffic laws apply, and must be obeyed!
Golf carts and off-highway vehicles must display the appropriate license plate to legally operate on a roadway. The fee for the plate is approximately $10+.
If traveling at a speed of not more than 25 mph, vehicles are also required to display a slow-moving vehicle emblem.
The following equipment is required on the vehicles.
Headlamps (always on)
Tail Lamps (always on)
Side Reflectors
Parking Brakes
Rear View Mirrors
Turn Signals
Horn
Brake Lights
Seat Belts
Windshield
Vehicle identification number
Suggested equipment:
A triangular orange flag mounted to the back of the vehicle at least 6 feet above ground level
